OPPOSITION VIEW

FROM THE HEREFORD TIMES

GARY Hooper, who spent such a profitable spell on loan at Edgar Street, reserved a predictably warm welcome for his old team-mates at Glanford Park.

The striker whose goals this season have made him one of the hottest properties in League One, set United on the way to their 13th away defeat of the season when he struck a typical goal, across Peter Gulacsi from the right of the penalty area, after just seven minutes.

When Kevan Hurst cracked in an almost identical effort 12 minutes later, it was effectively 'game over' for Hereford.

"Although most teams can play when they are two-up, Scunthorpe are a good side," said Bulls chief Graham Turner. "We just never matched their tempo."

Febian Brandy had a good shot well saved just before the interval and both Toumani Diagouraga and Dean Beckwith had efforts cleared off the line as the Bulls enjoyed a good spell either side of half-time.

Steve Guinan also had a powerful effort saved at the expense of a corner but Hereford, for whom goals continue to be hard to come by, failed to make the breakthrough which might have given them some encouragement to stage a fightback.

And, with the home side continuing to counter-attack at pace, in a manner reminiscent of some Hereford sides of recent years, it was no great surprise when Paul Hayes sealed the win with a third goal 12 minutes from the end of a disappointing evening.
