OPPOSITION VIEW
FROM THE YEOVIL TOWN OFFICIAL WEBSITE
A GOAL in each half was enough to take high-flying Scunny to joint top of the table, with a seventh win on the trot, while The Glovers were condemned to a place in the bottom three.
The game left manager Russell Slade generous in his praise for the opposition: "I think we played the best team in the division today."They've got tremendous ability in their side and it's a fantastic yardstick for us. It shows where we need to be. In the first half particularly, we were second best today.
"It was one way traffic in the first half hour and they could have put the game to bed. They didn't though and we improved in the second half.
"We were much more competitive and a bit of credit comes our way for that, but we do need to tighten up away from home."
Yeovil could have been two goals down within the first two minutes.
First, Terrell Forbes blocked a shot from Woolford and then a couple of minutes later Paul Hayes struck a vicious volley against the inside of the post after Asmir Begovic had rushed out to collect the ball, only to lose it to Hayes.
Scunthorpe continued to press, and while Begovic may have been somewhat gung ho minutes earlier, he was certainly Yeovil's saviour when he dived full length to save a Matt Sparrow shot.
It was certainly all hands to the pump at the Yeovil end when Woolford had another header saved by Yeovil's 'keeper and then McCann saw his free kick go just wide.Terry Skiverton was on hand to head clear another goalbound chance minutes later as was Forbes who blocked a shot from Hooper.
Just when you thought that maybe The Glovers had weathered the storm, Scunthorpe scored in the 27th minute.
A corner from McCann easily found the head of Iriekpen and as only Skiverton challenged him, the former Swansea defender saw his looping header find the corner of the net.
It was no more than The Iron deserved as Yeovil were never really in the game to that point.
Paul Warne's snap shot from close in was their only noteworthy effort, but that was saved by Murphy who looked like a 'keeper who was not going to concede.
Just when Yeovil thought it couldn't get any worse, it did when Aidan Downes had to limp off with a recurrence of a knee problem that had kept him out for the last month.
Scunthorpe started off the second half the way they had finished the first and although Yeovil switched to 4-4-2, with the addition of Andre McCollin up front, it was still the same pressure the men from the West Country found themselves under.
Sparrow fired a shot just wide and Begovic was again in action saving from Woolford, but it was still not going to stop Scunthorpe.
They went further in front in the 62nd minute. Woolford won the ball out wide and his cross back across goal bounced off Yeovil defender Forbes and into the net.
Yeovil tried to hit back and brought on Gavin Tomlin to boost their attack but the home side were well in control and were not going to let their lead slip, as they recorded their seventh win on the trot.
