SULSESC REPORT

by Neil Wright at Glanford Park

DERBY day – and the now customary early start for London branch members making the journey north.

The one positive thing about a midday kick-off is that the roads are empty and the journey therefore quicker than normal.

With a healthy near 6,500 crowd packed into Glanford Park, United came out of the blocks at full pelt right from the first whistle. With less than five minutes on the clock, we’d managed two shots on target with those efforts resulting in two corners.

The rest of the first-half continued at a frenetic pace with both sides desperate to get the opening goal.

The deadlock was broken on 54 minutes when Billy Sharp rifled home a shot low across the area into the left hand corner of the Rovers goal with Budtz easily beaten at his right hand post.

United continued to pile on the pressure and on 68 minutes Andy Keogh scored what was to be the winner, controlling the ball inside the 18-yard box and drilling it past the Rovers keeper.

Another emphatic performance from United and the climb up the table continues. Next port of call? The City Ground, Nottingham. Bring it on!
