SULSESC REPORT
by Colin Lowe at Huish Park
THERE are few things in life as sure – death, taxes and Scunny letting in goals?
So who would have guessed we'd keep a clean sheet here?
Based on this result, we may have secured concurrent seasons in the third tier for the first time in who knows how long. All thanks to a 1-0 win away at Yeovil!
We'd not won here before and the first half had nil-nil written all over it. Billy Sharp was back from injury and looked as keen as ever. He was played wide on the right, Keogh was on the left and Stompy held the middle ground. Chances were few and far between – and Yeovil hardly made an appearance in our box in the first 45.
Then, after the break, the game evened up a little. Evans made some good stops and the Iron looked to shoot as often as possible. A second-half corner decided the game – as the ball swung in high to the edge of the six-yard box, it cleared a leaping defender and Scunny attacker and reached
Sharp – much to his surprise. With little time to react he stooped to head the ball home. In fact, it came more off his shoulder, but he was not to care about that and ran to celebrate in front of the travelling fans, obviously happy to have notched a goal on his return!
We were also not bothered about the quality of the effort as three points was the aim. At the final whistle, the players and staff reacted as though we'd won the cup – realising that this result meant we'd almost certainly avoided the drop! Only time will tell...
